Myokoin Temple - White Lotus Center for Shin Buddhism

The White Lotus Center for Shin Buddhism was designated as an official Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temple by the Jodo Shinshu Nishi Hongwanji-ha in Kyoto, Japan, September 2004. The temple name is Myokoin, which means “Wondrous Light Temple”. The White Lotus Center for Shin Buddhism, founded in 1998 by Rev. Yuho and Diane Van Parijs, has been conducting regular Shin Buddhist services on a weekly basis, offering free lecture series, and building a Jodo Shinshu sangha (community) for the past 9 years. The temple is unique in the sense that it is affiliated with Jikoji Temple in Antwerp, Belgium, home of Rev. Yuho Van Parijs, which is directly affiliated with the home temple in Kyoto, Japan. In October 2003, Rev. Jishin (Diane) Johnson studied at the Jodo Shinshu Nishi Hongwanji-ha in Kyoto, Japan and was ordained as a Jodo Shinshu Priest. Myokoin Temple of Anchorage, Alaska is fortunate to have two resident priests at this time.
